If you were browsing women’s shoes on Amazon and came across a shoe that says “8 C/D US”, this would mean that the shoe has a length of 8 inches and has an above-average width according to women’s shoe sizes in the US.
So C/D US essentially means the average width size of shoes in the United States.
Another observation we can take away from this is that the C/D is not the same for both men’s and women’s shoes.
C/D Sizing and Men’s Shoes
When looking at men’s shoes’ width sizing in ascending order, we have the following sizes: B, D, EE, and EEEE.
For men’s shoes, the average width size is D. So, the C/D in men’s shoes is D.
For example, if shoes of a size 8 EE fit you, that means that you have wider than average feet.
On the other hand, if shoes of a size 8 B fit you, that means you have narrower than average feet.

When it comes to women’s shoes, you have the following widths in ascending order: AAA, AA, A, B, C/D, and E.
Most of the time, you won’t be able to find the AAA size for most women’s shoes. They typically start from AA for narrow feet.
B is actually the average width size for women’s feet.
C/D is wide
E is extra wide.

AA width size is 2 13/16 inches. B width size is 3 3/16 inches wide. C/D width would be 3 9/16 inches wide and finally, for a size E width shoe, the width would be 3 15/16 inches wide.

When it comes to children’s shoes in the USA, the sizing works the same as the sizing for women’s shoes for the most part.
It starts from AAAA, then AAA, AA, and A for narrow feet.
B is average.
D is wide and E is extra wide.

As we’ve explained above, the average width size for men’s shoes is D whereas the average width size for women’s shoes is B.
